Frequently Asked Questions

How is nutrition counseling different from therapy?

Working with a dietitian who specializes in eating disorders is not intended to replace therapy or counseling, as these functions are outside of a dietitian’s scope of practice.

I often work with therapists who specialize in eating disorders in a team-based approach for treating eating disorders. My familiarity with the therapeutic models and tools that are used by therapists means that we are all on the same page in our communication, with each other and with our clients.

How long will I have to work with a dietitian?

There is no one timeline that each person will follow, on their personal journey to a healthy relationship with food. Not only is each person an individual in terms of their particular situation, but each person progresses on their own path, at their own rate.

Only after I get to know you and your situation will I be able to make a recommendation regarding frequency of sessions.

During the course of our working together, you may find that you go through a period where you need more help to stay on track, and we can schedule more frequent sessions if that happens.

Do you take insurance?

Unfortunately, I do not accept insurance at this time.

How much do your services cost?

  • INITIAL ASSESSMENT, 60 MINUTES, $200

In our conversation, we will go through details of your nutritional, medical, and social histories.  Start thinking about the nutrition goals that you want to share with me.  These will help me outline the course of your individual treatment plan.

  • FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS, 45 MINUTES, $175

The number of follow-up sessions needed will be assessed for each individual.  During these sessions, we will discuss your progress, make adjustments, and provide you with the tools and guidance you need to reach your nutrition goals.

  • CHECK-IN SESSIONS: 30 MINUTES, $125

These sessions are for established clients who have been working on their nutrition goals and need fine-tuning to sustain the progress they have made.  A few check-in sessions as needed may be beneficial when you have significant events coming up, such as exams, deadlines, or holidays, which can interfere with your nutrition progress and throw you off track.  Continued accountability and support will keep you going in the right direction.

How should I prepare for our sessions together?

  • Make sure you are in a quiet space, or use headphones to eliminate background noise.

  • Make sure your device is charged or plugged in.

  • Have a notebook ready to take notes. Use the same one each session to keep your notes in.
